For Immediate Release
Seattle, November 8, 2018 — BGIS announced today that it has been awarded the Gold HIRE Vets Medallion Award for 2018 by the US Department of Labor. The HIRE Vets Medallion Program implements the requirements of Public Law 115-31, the ‘Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017’ (HIRE Vets Act) signed by President Trump in May 2017.
The HIRE Vets Medallion Award is the only veterans hiring award at the federal level. Its criteria allow for the highest level of recognition for employers who are committed to veteran careers, including recruiting, employing, and retention. These employers set an example for other employers of the importance of prioritizing and encouraging successful veteran hiring and retention. The award signals to veterans that an employer is committed to and supports these heroes.
“BGIS is very proud to have been awarded a Gold HIRE Vets Medallion Award for 2018 and even prouder to support our veterans. Approximately 30 percent of BGIS’s US workforce is made up of veterans and we’re grateful and honored to be able to hire our nation’s heroes to work for our organization,” says Brian Fellows, President, US Operations, BGIS.
BGIS’s Director, Talent Acquisition, Scott Haas, a former US Marine, stated “By meeting the Department of Labor’s criteria for a Gold HIRE Vets Medallion Award, BGIS has clearly demonstrated its commitment to recruiting from the veteran and spouse community, while at the same time also demonstrating that we are also committed to retaining these talented individuals within our organization.”
There are different awards for large employers (500-plus employees), medium employers (51-499 employees), and small employers (50 or fewer employees). Additionally, there are two award tiers: Gold and Platinum. For each award, the employer must satisfy a set of criteria. BGIS received a Gold Medallion award in the ‘Large Employer’ category which requires no less than seven percent of vets hired in 2018 and no less than 74 percent of Vets hired retained for 12 months.
“BGIS will continue to recruit and employ veterans and looks forward to collaborating in support of our Nation’s veterans in the years ahead,” says Fellows.
