The events of the past weeks have been heard globally and remind us that the specter of racism requires constant vigilance, and that caring for each other is so critically important. Caring reminds us not to stand idly by when others are being discriminated against, and caring is critical to the healing process for those that are affected directly, and very importantly, indirectly, where apparent indifference can perpetuate this critical problem.
In Canada, we remind ourselves of our historical and ongoing shortcomings that we must continue to acknowledge, understand, and address, since they are not eradicated as many still struggle to overcome the effects of racism inflicted on previous generations and continue to face racism today.
At BGIS, we are clear in our commitment to the elimination of racism and we have joined with other Canadian Business Leaders to denounce racism. Gord Hicks, Global CEO, has added our name to this statement, along with many other Canadian Leaders. You can view the statement by clicking here.
We all share in the responsibility to eliminate racism and to coach each other daily where unconscious bias may exist.
Following the killing of George Floyd in the United States, we all need to recognize that this is both a difficult and important time. At BGIS we are very proud to stand together and support each other as caring is a foundational element of our culture and contributes to our ongoing success. At the same time, we can, we must, and we will, constantly strive to do better.
